Plan Ahead

Prevent future termite damage

One of the best lines of defense against termites is a prevention plan.

Preventative termite treatments help eliminate termite colonies damaging your property both indoors and outdoors.

It pays to be one step ahead. As the old adage goes, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.

Get preventative termite treatments

We take all the necessary steps to prevent future termite damage by using stand-alone Bora-Care® pretreats during the “dried-in” phase of construction of your home, business or rental property. This is when the roof, studs, exterior wall, sheathing, and other framing elements are in place, but before insulation and interior wall coverings such as sheetrock, paneling, etc. are installed.

We also apply Bora-Care® to pretreat outdoor natural wood structures. For it to penetrate the wood, the surface must be unfinished, bare or stripped. It can’t be painted, stained, or been treated with a water sealant.

Bora-Care® In-Depth

Bora-Care® is a proven borate-based termiticide that protects wooden structures from subterranean termites, decay fungi, carpenter ants and beetles.

Because its active ingredient is a mineral salt, it doesn’t break down over time. By remaining sealed and protected in the wood from moisture, it provides long-term protection and eliminates the need for retreatment.

My Termite Company highly recommends Bora-Care® for meeting building standards and being a “green” choice for customers who demand less-toxic alternatives.

If you’re planning to construct any of the listed structures, refer your builder or contractor to contact us about pretreating the wooden parts with Bora-Care®.

Most common termite prevention questions

A preventative treatment helps prevent termites from forming a colony in specific sections of your home. We apply a chemical to the surface of the wood. As a result, any new termite that comes into contact with the treated wood will soon pass away.

It is estimated termites have lived in 95% of all homes in Southern California and cause over 5 billion dollars in property damage yearly. A preventative treatment will keep termites out in the short and long run, and to help to avoid costly repairs and/or treatments.

Your home will be protected by the preventative treatment for up to 10 years, as per label. However, our warranty only covers for 2 years and may be compounded with other treatments.

No, your home is not completely protected by a preventive treatment. To start off, the preventative treatment can only prevent new termites from forming a new colony. In addition, since the preventive treatment is a chemical that stays active for a couple years, it cannot be applied to wood that is easily accessible to humans, pets, or wild life such as decks, facials, sidings, etc. The areas that the preventive can be applied are mainly attics, crawl spaces, and frames before they are paneled. It may be required to add other forms of treatment to first eliminate the current colonies in your home, followed by a preventative treatment to keep new colonies from forming.

Even though you may have warranty for your property, it does not guarantee new termite colonies will not form during the warranty period. It is quite difficult to locate a new termite colony in attics, crawl spaces, and behind walls where we cannot see. In addition to protecting your home from termites in these areas, by preventing colonies from forming in inaccessible areas, you will avoid spending on costly repairs in the future.

Yes! Any structure made of wood is susceptible to termites; a preventative treatment can protect your wood structures in the long term. Before painting and setting up your wooden structure, call My Termite to inspect and pre-treat the wood. If the wooden structure has been painted, stained, or varnished, unfortunately a preventative treatment will not work since the chemical would be unable to bind with the wood. For your next wooden project, make sure to call My Termite to treat any new wood before installing!

The best company to hire for sure! They gave me an appointment within a week which was amazing, they worked with my busy schedule and was able to come out on a Sunday and were on time! They gave me the best pricing out of all the companies I called, the work was done in a great manor, I didn’t have to hover to keep an eye on anything, they made me trust their judgement and work. Wendy is just so sweet and easily reachable as well as Alissa who was so helpful every time I called and answered all my questions when I called the office. So I will be recommending their business to all my friends and business associates! Thank you so much!

Highly recommend this company. They are a local neighborhood company that does amazing work and the prices are better than any other competitor I reached out to. I have used other companies in the past and this was by far the smoothest tenting process I’ve had. Brandon & Wendy were wonderful the entire process and always kept me up to speed on where we were in the process. The installation of the tent was seamless and the team that put up the tent were very professional and courteous from start to finish. I would definitely use them again!

Wendy and her team at My Termite Company are awesome! We have treated two properties using their services. They always respond fast. They kept me updated about every stage of the fumigation and repairs process. They gave me a fair price and took into account all changes that happened during the process. We are very happy with their work and customer service!
