Patch or Replace Termite-Damaged Wood

Termites can cause serious structural damage to your home, especially in areas like the subarea foundation. That’s why it’s important not just to eliminate the infestation, but also to repair any wood they’ve compromised. In doing so, you help block future infestations from gaining a foothold in the same weakened spots.

If ignored, damaged wood can serve as an open invitation to new termites, allowing them to pick up right where the last colony left off.

Repairs for wood with dry rot or wet rot are equally essential, as these conditions often attract termites. Upon request, we’re happy to provide a quote for those repairs as well.

We stand by our work with a 30-day warranty on all repairs. Additionally, we’ll prime and color-match any wood we patch or replace to ensure a clean, finished look.

Wood Repair Options

With over 20 years of hands-on wood repair experience, we know how to restore termite-damaged wood safely and correctly. That’s why our experienced inspectors will assess the damage and recommend whether the affected wood should be patched or fully replaced.

Wood Patching

If the damage affects 30% or less of the wood, patching is usually the best option. We use Bondo®, a professional-grade filler. This all-purpose putty hardens in under an hour, then gets sanded, primed, and painted by our carpenter.

Wood Replacement

If the wood’s stability is compromised, replacement is the safer choice. During inspection, our team notes the wood type and dimensions. Damaged sections are removed and replaced with new lumber. Once secured, the area is primed and painted. Upon request, we can also pretreat the replacement wood with Bora-Care® for added protection.

Wood Pretreatment

Interested in long lasting termite prevention? We offer pre-treating the wood we replace with Bora-Care®. Bora-Care® is a chemical that stays active in the wood up to 9 years, affecting termites and wood-eating beetles.

We offer 3 years warranty on pre-treated wood.

Most common termite wood repair questions

Yes, we highly recommend repairing all termite-damaged wood to help prevent future infestations and moisture problems. Damaged wood is like a fully furnished home for new termites; they won’t struggle to find a nesting place. At the same time, exposed wood can absorb water, leading to wet rot or mold without proper ventilation.

Fixing damaged wood helps stop termites from returning. That’s because wood with leftover tunnels makes it easier for new colonies to settle deep inside your home. If left untreated, the damage can remain hidden for years. To avoid repeat infestations and expensive repairs, it’s best to repair the damage early.

Undetected termites can live in your home for years, quietly causing serious damage. Subterranean termites often start at the foundation, while drywood termites begin at the exterior. Reaching the damaged wood can require breaking walls. And in some areas, permits are required for structural repairs – raising the overall cost.

Yes, termites can definitely cause structural damage. Subterranean termites are more likely to target foundational wood since they live in soil directly beneath your home. Drywood termites, on the other hand, often attack exterior rafters or beams, reaching critical areas like attics, rooflines, or patio framing.

Termites eat through wood framing, weakening your home’s structure. Over time, this leaves wood hollow and brittle. If water seeps into those voids, it can create the perfect conditions for wet rot and mold to form-causing even more damage beyond the initial termite infestation.

In extreme cases, termites can compromise an entire structure. One example is a 2016 case in New Orleans, where a property collapsed due to advanced termite damage. While rare, it shows the importance of early detection, expert termite treatment, and timely repairs. Read story

While uncommon, termites can destroy a home if left untreated. They eat nonstop—day and night—and reproduce every year. If multiple colonies are active and undisturbed, they can slowly chew through structural wood, eventually compromising the integrity of the entire property.

A colony of 60,000 termites can eat a foot of a 2×4 beam in just five months. But homes often host several colonies. Depending on location and access, visible damage may take years—or just a couple—to appear. Either way, early inspections are key.

The best company to hire for sure! They gave me an appointment within a week which was amazing, they worked with my busy schedule and was able to come out on a Sunday and were on time! They gave me the best pricing out of all the companies I called, the work was done in a great manor, I didn’t have to hover to keep an eye on anything, they made me trust their judgement and work. Wendy is just so sweet and easily reachable as well as Alissa who was so helpful every time I called and answered all my questions when I called the office. So I will be recommending their business to all my friends and business associates! Thank you so much!

Highly recommend this company. They are a local neighborhood company that does amazing work and the prices are better than any other competitor I reached out to. I have used other companies in the past and this was by far the smoothest tenting process I’ve had. Brandon & Wendy were wonderful the entire process and always kept me up to speed on where we were in the process. The installation of the tent was seamless and the team that put up the tent were very professional and courteous from start to finish. I would definitely use them again!

Wendy and her team at My Termite Company are awesome! We have treated two properties using their services. They always respond fast. They kept me updated about every stage of the fumigation and repairs process. They gave me a fair price and took into account all changes that happened during the process. We are very happy with their work and customer service!
